Ant.

Invitatory {Antiphon from the Proper of Saints}
Ant. Come adore * Christ the King who was exalted to the cross for us.
Ant. Come adore * Christ the King who was exalted to the cross for us.
Come let us praise the Lord with joy: let us joyfully sing to God our saviour. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; and make a joyful noise to him with psalms.
Ant. Come adore * Christ the King who was exalted to the cross for us.
For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. For the Lord will not cast off his people: for in his hand are all the ends of the earth, and the heights of the mountains are his.
Ant. Christ the King who was exalted to the cross for us.
For the sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. (genuflect) Come let us adore and fall down: and weep before the Lord that made us: For he is the Lord our God: and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
Ant. Come adore * Christ the King who was exalted to the cross for us.
Today if you shall hear his voice, harden not your hearts: As in the provocation, according to the day of temptation in the wilderness: where your fathers tempted me, they proved me, and saw my works.
Ant. Christ the King who was exalted to the cross for us.
Forty years long was I offended with that generation, and I said: These always err in heart. And these men have not known my ways: so I swore in my wrath that they shall not enter into my rest.
Ant. Come adore * Christ the King who was exalted to the cross for us.
℣. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.
℟. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Hymn {from the Proper of Saints}
Sing, my tongue, the glorious battle
Sing the last, the dread affray;
O'er the cross, the victor's trophy,
Sound the high triumphal lay:
Tell how Christ, the world's Redeemer,
As a victim won the day.

God, his Maker, sorely grieving
That the first-made Adam fell,
When he ate the fruit of sorrow,
Whose reward was death and hell,
Noted then this wood, the ruin
Of the ancient wood to quell.

For the work of our salvation
Needs would have his order so,
And the multiform deceiver's
Art by art would overthrow,
And from thence would bring the med'cine
Whence the insult of the foe.

Wherefore, when the sacred fullness
Of the appointed time was come,
This world's Maker left his Father,
Sent the heav'nly mansion from,
And proceeded, God Incarnate,
Of the Virgin's holy womb.

Weeps the infant in the manger
That in Bethlehem's stable stands;
And his limbs the Virgin Mother
Doth compose in swaddling bands,
Meetly thus in linen folding
Of her God the feet and hands.

To the Trinity be glory
Everlasting, as is meet;
Equal to the Father, equal
To the Son, and Paraclete:
Trinal Unity, whose praises
All created things repeat.
Amen.

Psalmus 1 [1]

Nocturn I.
Ant. In the noble tree's uplifting, * and the nations bending low, see a proof that Christ hath triumphed o'er the legions of the foe.
Psalm 1 [1]
1:1 Blessed is the man who hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stood in the way of sinners, * nor sat in the chair of pestilence.
1:2 But his will is in the law of the Lord, * and on his law he shall meditate day and night.
1:3 And he shall be like a tree which is planted near the running waters, * which shall bring forth its fruit, in due season.
1:3 And his leaf shall not fall off: * and all whatsoever he shall do shall prosper.
1:4 Not so the wicked, not so: * but like the dust, which the wind driveth from the face of the earth.
1:5 Therefore the wicked shall not rise again in judgment: * nor sinners in the council of the just.
1:6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the just: * and the way of the wicked shall perish.
℣. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.
℟. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

2:2 The kings of the earth stood up, and the princes met together, * against the Lord and against his Christ.
2:3 Let us break their bonds asunder: * and let us cast away their yoke from us.
2:4 He that dwelleth in heaven shall laugh at them: * and the Lord shall deride them.
2:5 Then shall he speak to them in his anger, * and trouble them in his rage.
2:6 But I am appointed king by him over Sion his holy mountain, * preaching his commandment.
2:7 The Lord hath said to me: * Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee.
2:8 Ask of me, and I will give thee the Gentiles for thy inheritance, * and the utmost parts of the earth for thy possession.
2:9 Thou shalt rule them with a rod of iron, * and shalt break them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
2:10 And now, O ye kings, understand: * receive instruction, you that judge the earth.
2:11 Serve ye the Lord with fear: * and rejoice unto him with trembling.
2:12 Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord be angry, * and you perish from the just way.
2:13 When his wrath shall be kindled in a short time, * blessed are all they that trust in him.

Itaque Heraclíus, qui Phocæ succésserat, multis belli incómmodis et calamitátibus afféctus, pacem petébat; quam a Chósroa, victóriis insolénte, ne iníquis quidem conditiónibus impetráre póterat. Quare in summo discrímine se assíduis ieiúniis et oratiónibus exércens, opem a Deo veheménter implorábat; cuius mónitu exércitu comparáto, signa cum hoste cóntulit, ac tres duces Chósroæ cum tribus exercítibus superávit.

Chosroes of Persia, having, in the last days of the reign of the Emperor Phocas, overrun Egypt and Africa, in 614, took Jerusalem, where he slaughtered thousands of Christians and carried off to Persia the Cross of the Lord, which Helen had put upon Mount Calvary. Heraclius, the successor of Phocas, moved by the thought of the hardships and horrid outrages of war, sought for peace, but Chosroes, drunken with conquest, would not allow of it even upon unfair terms. Heraclius therefore, being set in this uttermost strait, earnestly sought help from God by constant fasting and prayer, and through His good inspiration gathered an army, joined battle with the enemy, and prevailed against three of Chosroes' chief captains, and three armies.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℟. But us it behoveth to glory in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, in Whom is our salvation, life, and resurrection
* Who hath saved us and redeemed us.

℟. Who hath saved us and redeemed us.
℣. Iube, domne, benedícere.

Quibus cládibus fractus Chósroas, in fuga, qua traícere Tigrim parábat, Medársen fílium sócium regni desígnat.
℣. Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.

℟. Adsunt prodígia divína in virga Móysi prímitus figuráta.

Reading 6
Chosroes was broken by these defeats, and when in his flight, in 628, he was about crossing the Tigris, he proclaimed his son Medarses partner in his kingdom. Chosroes' eldest son Siroes took this slight to heart, and formed a plot to murder his father and brother, which plot he brought to effect soon after they had come home. Then he got the kingdom from Heraclius upon certain terms, whereof the first was that he should give back the Cross of the Lord Christ.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℟. The Relique true from heaven revealed, hath now the Gospel's figure sealed
* As by the serpent Moses reared, so by the Cross the sick are healed.
℣. When the dead touch the Cross they arise, and the wonderful works of God are made manifest.
℟. As by the serpent Moses reared, so by the Cross the sick are healed.
℣. Iube, domne, benedícere.
Benedictio. Ignem sui amóris accéndat Deus in córdibus nostris. Amen.

℟. Tunc manifésta erunt abscóndita cordis nostri.
℣. Grant, Lord, a blessing.
Benediction. May the Spirit's fire Divine in our hearts enkindled shine. Amen.

Reading 7
The Cross therefore was received back after that it had been fourteen years in the power of the Persians, and in 629 Heraclius came to Jerusalem and bore it with solemn pomp unto the Mount whereunto the Saviour had borne it. This event was marked by a famous miracle. Heraclius, who was adorned with gold and jewels, stayed perforce at the gateway which leadeth unto Mount Calvary, and the harder he strove to go forward, the harder he seemed to be held back, whereat both himself and all they that stood by were sore amazed.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℟. This Sign of the Cross shall be in heaven, when the Lord cometh to judgment.
* Then shall the secrets of our hearts be made manifest.
℣. When the Son of Man shall sit in the throne of His glory, and shall begin to judge the world by fire.
℟. Then shall the secrets of our hearts be made manifest.
℣. Iube, domne, benedícere.
Benedictio. A cunctis vítiis et peccátis absólvat nos virtus sanctæ Trinitátis. Amen.

Reading 8
Then spake Zacharias, Patriarch of Jerusalem, saying: See, O Emperor, that it be not that in carrying the Cross attired in the guise of a Conqueror thou showest too little of the poverty and lowliness of Jesus Christ. Then Heraclius cast away his princely raiment and took off his shoes from his feet, and in the garb of a countryman easily finished his journey, and set up the Cross once more in the same place upon Calvary whence the Persians had carried it away. That the Cross had been put by Heraclius in the same place wherein it had first been planted by the Saviour caused the yearly Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross to become the more famous thenceforward.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℟. By the sign of the cross
* Deliver us from our enemies, O our God.

From the Holy Gospel according to John
John 12:31-36
At that time, Jesus said unto the multitudes of the Jews: Now is the judgment of this world, now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And so on.

Homily by Pope St. Leo the Great.
8th on the Lord's Passion.
Dearly beloved brethren, when we gaze upon Christ lifted up upon the Cross, the eyes of our mind see more than that which appeared before the wicked, unto whom it was said through Moses: And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee, and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life. Deut. xxviii 66. They saw in the crucified Lord nothing but the work of their own wickedness, and they feared greatly, Matth. xxvii. 54, not with that faith which giveth earnest of life by justification, but with that whereby the evil conscience is tortured.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℟. Sweetest wood and sweetest iron, Sweetest weight is hung on thee
* Thou alone wast counted worthy this world's ransom to uphold.
℣. The sign of the Cross shall be in heaven when the Lord cometh to judgment.
℟. Thou alone wast counted worthy this world's ransom to uphold.
℣. Iube, domne, benedícere.
Benedictio.

But our understanding is enlightened by the Spirit of truth, and with pure and open hearts we see the glory of the Cross shining over heaven and earth, and discern by inward glance what the Lord meant when His Passion was nigh at hand, and He said: Now is the judgment of this world, now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all things unto Me. How wonderful is the power of the Cross! O how unutterable is the glory of the Passion, wherein standeth the Lord's judgment-seat, and the judgment of this world, and the might of the Crucified! Lord!
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℟. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up
* That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Thou hast drawn all things unto thee! Thou didst spread out thine Hands all the day unto an unbelieving and gainsaying people, Isa. lxv. 2, but the world hath felt and owned thy Majesty! Lord! Thou hast drawn all things unto thee! All the elements gave one wild cry of horror at the iniquity of the Jews the lights of the firmament were darkened, day turned into night, earth quaked with strange tremblings, and all God's work refused to serve the guilty. Lord! Thou hast drawn all things unto thee! The veil of the Temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom, the Holy of Holies denied itself as a Sanctuary for the ministration of unworthy Priests, that the shadow might be changed for the substance, prophecy for realization, and the Law for the Gospel.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℟. We adore your cross, we remember your glorious passion
* Have mercy on us, O Lord, who suffered for us.

Reading 12
Lord! Thou hast drawn all things unto thee! That which was veiled under types and shadows in the one Jewish Temple, is hailed by the love of all peoples in full and open worship. There is now a higher order of Levites, a more honourable rank of elders, a Priesthood with an holier anointing. thy Cross is a well of blessings for all, and a cause of thanksgiving for all. Thereby for them that believe in thee, weakness is turned into strength, shame into glory, and death into life. The changing ordinance of diverse carnal sacrifices is gone; the one oblation of thy Body and Blood fulfilleth them all. For Thou art the Very Paschal Lamb, Which takest away the sins of the world, and art in thyself all offerings finished. And even as Thou art the One Sacrifice Which taketh the place of all sacrifices, so may thy kingdom be one kingdom established over all peoples.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℟. Behold the Cross of the Lord, begone all evil powers, the Lion of the tribe of Judah,
* The root of David has conquered! Alleluia.
℣. O Blessed cross, on which the King of the Angels triumphed.
℟. The root of David has conquered, Alleluia.
℣. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.
℟. The root of David has conquered, Alleluia.

Sequéntia +︎ sancti Evangélii secúndum Ioánnem
Ioann 12:31-36
℟. Amen

Te decet laus, te decet hymnus: tibi glória Deo Patri, et Fílio, cum Spíritu Sancto in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
Continuation +︎ of the Holy Gospel according to John
John 12:31-36
℟. Glory be to you, O Lord.
At that time, Jesus said to the multitudes of the Jews, Now is the judgment of the world; now will the prince of the world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all things to Myself. Now he said this signifying by what death He was to die. The crowd answered Him, We have heard from the Law that the Christ abides forever. And how can You say, ‘The son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man? Jesus therefore said to them, Yet a little while the light is among you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness may not overtake you. He who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.
℟. Amen

Thou art worthy of praise, thou art worthy of hymns, to Thee be glory: to God the Father and the Son with the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen.

Lustris sex qui iam peráctis,
Tempus implens córporis,
Se volénte natus ad hoc,
Passióni déditus,
Agnus in Crucis levátur
Immolándus stípite.

Hic acétum, fel, arúndo,
Sputa, clavi, láncea:
Mite corpus perforátur,
Sanguis, unda prófluit:
Terra, pontus, astra, mundus,
Quo lavántur flúmine!

Crux fidélis, inter omnes
Arbor una nóbilis:
Nulla silva talem profert
Fronde, flore, gérmine:
Dulce lignum, dulces clavos,
Dulce pondus sústinet.

Flecte ramos, arbor alta,
Tensa laxa víscera,
Et rigor lentéscat ille,
Quem dedit natívitas:
Ut supérni membra Regis

Ferre sæcli prétium,

Phil 2:5-7
For let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and in habit found as a man.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℟. This sign of the Cross * shall be in heaven.

Hymn
Thirty years among us dwelling,
His appointed time fulfilled,
Born for this, he meets his passion,
For that this he freely willed:
On the cross the Lamb is lifted,
Where his life-blood shall be spilled.

He endured the nails, the spitting,
Vinegar, and spear, and reed;
From that holy body broken
Blood and water forth proceed:
Earth, and stars, and sky, and ocean,
By that flood from stain are free.

Faithful cross! above all other,
One and only noble tree!
None in foliage, none in blossom,
None in fruit thy peers may be;
Sweetest wood and sweetest iron!
Sweetest weight is hung on thee.

Bend thy boughs, O tree of glory!
Thy relaxing sinews bend;
For awhile the ancient rigour,
That thy birth bestowed, suspend;
And the King of heavenly beauty
On thy bosom gently tend!

Thou alone wast counted worthy
This world's ransom to uphold;
For a shipwrecked race preparing
Harbour, like the ark of old;
With the sacred blood anointed
From the smitten Lamb that rolled.

To the Trinity be glory
Everlasting, as is meet;
Equal to the Father, equal
To the Son, and Paraclete:
Trinal Unity, whose praises
All created things repeat.
Amen.

℣. We adore thee, O Christ, and we bless thee.
℟. Because that through thy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Canticle of Zacharias
Luke 1:68-79
1:68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; * because he hath visited and wrought the redemption of his people:
1:69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation to us, * in the house of David his servant:
1:70 As he spoke by the mouth of his holy Prophets, * who are from the beginning:
1:71 Salvation from our enemies, * and from the hand of all that hate us:
1:72 To perform mercy to our fathers, * and to remember his holy testament,
1:73 The oath, which he swore to Abraham our father, * that he would grant to us,
1:74 That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, * we may serve him without fear,
1:75 In holiness and justice before him, * all our days.
1:76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: * for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways:
1:77 To give knowledge of salvation to his people, * unto the remission of their sins:
1:78 Through the bowels of the mercy of our God, * in which the Orient from on high hath visited us:
1:79 To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: * to direct our feet into the way of peace.

Hymn
Now in the sun's new dawning ray,
Lowly of heart, our God we pray
That he from harm may keep us free
In all the deeds this day shall see.

May fear of him our tongues restrain,
Lest strife unguarded speech should stain:
His favouring care our guardian be,
Lest our eyes feed on vanity.

May every heart be pure from sin
And folly find no place therein:
Scant need of food, excess denied,
Wear down in us the body's pride.

That when the light of day is gone,
And night in course shall follow on.
We, free from cares the world affords,
May chant the praise that is our Lord's.

All laud to God the Father be,
All praise, Eternal Son, to thee:
All glory, as is ever meet,
To God the holy Paraclete.
Amen.

Martyrologium (anticip.)
The morrow is the Octave of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
September 15th 2020, the 27th day of the Moon, were born into the better life:

At Rome, upon the Nomentan Way, (in the first century,) the holy martyr Nicomede the Priest. Unto them that would have forced him to offer sacrifice he said, " I do not sacrifice, save unto the Almighty God, Who reigneth in the heavens," and he was beaten with scourges loaded with lead until at last he passed away to be ever with the Lord.
In the country of Chalons, (in the second century,) the holy martyr Valerian. The President Priscus caused him to be hung up and tormented by mangling with metal hooks, but when he saw that he could not be shaken in his confession of Christ, but continued the rather to praise Him with a glad heart, he commanded to slay him with the sword.
At Marcianopolis, in Thrace, the holy martyr Melitina. Under the Emperor Antonine and the President Antiochus, she was twice brought to the temples of the Gentiles, but as the idols continually fell down, she was hung up and mangled, and at last beheaded.
At Adrianople, the holy martyrs Maximus, Theodore, and Asclepiodotus, who were crowned under the Emperor Maximian.
Also holy Porphyry, a jester who received baptism as a farce in the presence of the Emperor Julian the Apostate, and was thereupon suddenly changed by the power of God, so that he professed himself to be a Christian, and by command of the Emperor received martyrdom by the axe.
Upon the same day, the holy Goth Nicetas, who was burnt by order of King Athanaric for the Catholic faith's sake.
At Cordova, (in the ninth century,) the holy martyrs Emilas, the Deacon, and Jeremiah, who suffered a long imprisonment in the persecution under the Arabs, and finished their testimony by being beheaded.
At Toul, in Lorraine, (in the fifth century,) the holy Confessor Aper, Bishop (of that see.) Likewise, (in the sixth century,) holy Lubin, Bishop of Chartres.
At Lyons, (in the fourth century,) holy Albin, Bishop (of that see.) On the same day, (in the seventh century,) holy Aichard, Abbot (of Jumieges.) In (Auvergne, in) Gaul, (in the fifth century,) the holy widow Eutropia.
℣. And elsewhere many other holy martyrs, confessors, and holy virgins.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℣. Precious in the sight of the Lord.
℟. Is the death of his saints.
Holy Mary and all the Saints, intercede for us with the Lord, our God, so that we may merit His help and salvation, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Regula
The Rule of our Holy Father Benedict. Chapter 2: What Kind of Man an Abbot Ought to Be. Continued.

The abbot ought always to remember what he is, to remember what he is styled and to know that to whom more is committed from him is more required; and let him know how difficult and arduous a matter he has undertaken, namely, to govern souls and to adapt himself to many dispositions. One with gentleness, another with rebukes, another with persuasion, so let him, according to the character and intelligence of each, mould and adapt himself, that not only may no injury accrue to the flock entrusted to him, but that he may actually have occasion to rejoice in the increase of his flock’s welfare.

Hymn
O God of truth, O Lord of might,
Who orderest time and change aright,
Who send’st the early morning ray,
And light’st the glow of perfect day:

Extinguish thou each sinful fire,
And banish every ill desire;
And while thou keep’st the body whole,
Shed forth thy peace upon the soul.

Almighty Father, hear our cry,
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord most High,
Who, with the Holy Ghost and thee,
Doth live and reign eternally.
Amen.

O strength and stay upholding all creation,
Who ever dost thyself unmoved abide,
Yet day by day the light in due gradation
From hour to hour through all its changes guide:

Grant to life’s day a calm unclouded ending,
An eve untouched by shadows of decay,
The brightness of a holy death-bed blending
With dawning glories of th’ eternal day.

Hear us, O Father, gracious and forgiving,
And thou, O Christ, the co-eternal Word,
Who, with the Holy Ghost, by all things living
Now and to endless ages art adored.

Chapter Responsory Hymn Verse {from the Proper of Saints}
Phil 2:5-7
For let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and in habit found as a man.
℟. Thanks be to God.

℟. We adore thee, O Christ, * and we bless thee.

Hymn
Abroad the regal banners fly,
Now shines the cross’s mystery;
Upon it Life did death endure,
And yet by death did life procure.

Who, wounded with a direful spear,
Did, purposely to wash us clear
From stain of sin, pour out a flood
Of precious water mixed with blood.

That which the prophet-king of old
Hath in mysterious verse foretold,
Is now accomplished, whilst we see
God ruling nations from a tree.

O lovely and refulgent tree,
Adorned with purpled majesty;
Culled from a worthy stock, to bear
Those limbs which sanctifièd were.

Blest tree, whose happy branches bore
The wealth that did the world restore;
The beam that did that body weigh
Which raised up hell’s expected prey.

The following verse is said on bended knee.

O Cross, our one reliance, hail!
On this triumphant day avail
To give fresh merit to the saint,
And pardon to the penitent.

Blest Trinity, salvation’s spring,
May every soul thy praises sing;
To those thou grantest conquest by
The holy cross, rewards apply.
Amen.

℣. This sign of the Cross shall be in heaven.
℟. When the Lord cometh to judgment.

Hymnus
Te lucis ante términum,
Rerum Creátor, póscimus,
Ut sólita cleméntia
Sis præsul ad custódiam.

Procul recédant sómnia,
Et nóctium phantásmata;
Hostémque nóstrum cómprime,
Ne polluántur córpora.

Præsta, Pater omnípotens,
Per Iesum Christum Dóminum,
Qui tecum in perpétuum
Regnat cum Sancto Spíritu.
Amen.
Hymn
Before the ending of the day,
Creator of the world, we pray
That with thy wonted favor thou
Wouldst be our guard and keeper now.

From all ill dreams defend our eyes,
From nightly fears and fantasies;
Tread under foot our ghostly foe,
That no pollution we may know.

O Father, that we ask be done,
Through Jesus Christ, thine only Son;
Who, with the Holy Ghost and thee,
Doth live and reign eternally.
Amen.

Final Antiphon of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Hail holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping
In this valley of tears.

Turn then, most gracious Advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us.
And after this our exile show unto us
the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

℣. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
℟. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray.
O almighty, everlasting God, who by the cooperation of the Holy Spirit, didst prepare the body and soul of Mary, glorious Virgin and Mother, to become a worthy dwelling for Thy Son; grant that we who rejoice in her commemoration may, by her gracious intercession, be delivered from present evils and from everlasting death. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
Then, in the public recitation of the Office, if the Community is to leave the Choir, the following Versicle is said.
℣. May the divine assistance remain with us always.
℟. And with our brothers, who are absent. Amen.
